Our caregivers conduct home visits to community members who have reported their HIV status, and bedridden patients are transported to local health services.
Home Visits |
Our Home-Based Care Programme is one of our daily activities, and one of our most important ones. On a daily basis, our Caregivers and Programme Manager visit the homes of community members who have reported their HIV status, most of whom are amongst the poorest of the poor. The main challenges they face are illness, hunger and extreme poverty. Our Caregivers adopt a holistic approach to assist the entire family, including training the principal caregiver on infection control and how to look after the patient according to the opportunistic infection that he or she presents (e.g., diarrhea, skin eruptions, chest infections, etc.). They also demonstrate basic nursing procedures such as bed making, bed-bathing, mouth and pressure care, etc. Bedridden patients are often transported to local health services, when the need arises.
